Opinions of George w. Bush
Although George Bush is/was Governor of Texas that does not make him a fit candidate for the presidency. He has gotten as far as he is because the "party big wigs" have supported him and seen that their favorite figurehead can fill the office of the President for the Republican party. Bush has also been avoiding confrontation in the form of a debate with Al Gore. This is because he must have everything prepared for him and served to him on a silver platter so that he can memorize everything to say. The drawback in that tatic is that you don't know what your opponent is going to say, it it puts you on the spot to demonstrate your compentence in all areas of current world affairs. One of the most important things that a voter can use to judge the competence of a candidate is to see them in action in debates. Speeches are important, but they are never actually written by the candidate, and then are spoonfed to them over a teleprompter. You can't do such things for a debate because it has to come from your own mind, and not a teleprompter.
